Healthful New Years Resolutions For Everyone

Hi guys and happy new year! I hope you all are well. As we all know weight loss/eating/health is a theme that enters a lot of people’s minds on January first. I personally have mixed feelings about new years resolutions, but I think it IS healthy for people to start thinking about what they’re putting in their body and what they’re doing with it. This being said, people think that intense, immediate switches are the way…and then usually fail. Nothing is immediate!!! Real results comes from longterm commitment, leading to longterm health & happiness. So, these next five goals can be for ANYONE, even people who live super healthy lives, it’s always good to reinforce and remind yourself.

tumblr_m5ye1qd2N01qa8vdgo1_500

1. Water, water, water! I cannot stress the importance of drinking water. Your cells (those things that keep you alive) BREATHE with water. Aim for 2-4 liters a day. Plan on drinking a big glass when you wake up, during your meals, between your meals, and another glass before bed. (Yes, I know that’s all day) I recommend buying a reusable water bottle and constantly filling it up throughout the day. It’s really yummy to add lemon or citrus fruits to your aqua. Your friends will be asking how you got your skin to look so good!

2. Smaller portions. This is so important you guys, people do not realize how much they are eating. Remember that your stomach is the size of your fist before your eat. Treat eating as a sacred thing (which it is by the way), chew slowly and get in touch with your senses with each bite. It helps to not hang around the kitchen after eating to limit grazing. I like to have a big cup of tea after meals. Know that you usually don’t need as much as you think you do. Don’t let your mind take control of you, this is your life, live it!

3. The Half Method. There are two ways I use the 1/2 method. The first is when I’m eating something delicious, but a little naughty, usually not something I eat all the time. This could be a pastry tart, or a sandwich, or pasta. I recommend splitting it in half, and eating only the half. You will feel satisfied and you are still getting the taste you desired. Now, if you’re like me, if I eat the half the next five minutes will consist of me staring at the other half and then finally giving up and eating it. Here’s the trick, if your with other people, split it and share! If you’re alone, get the half to-go and immediately stow it away in your bag.

The second way to use the 1/2 method is with your regular lunch and dinners. Make sure to have at least half of your plate filled with vegetables. Using that guide you’ll no doubt be getting your veg intake and it will help when you go out to eat.

4. Move more! One thing I find so funny about the American culture, is people would rather slave away in the gym like rats on a wheel than go up the stairs to a friends flat on the third floor, or walk a mile to a cafe. Find ways to walk more in your daily life! You don’t have to do these intense workouts in the gym. Do calf-raises on the train, walk to work, take the stairs (especially if it’s below level 5), flex your core as you’re sitting at your desk.

5. Breathe, baby breathe. So many of us forget the beauty of the breathe. Take time to inhale and exhale for six seconds, through your nose. Be consistent and remind yourself that your breathe takes you through all times of your life. The good and the bad.

Until next time,

Claire

Having A Guilt-Free Thanksgiving.

vtfwvtrmujlwqzutnwpdt5rmckbkhx6wu8kifppv7j9rib5qrllig1emwgvvqmde-f

As we all know who celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s right around the corner. Thanksgiving should be a time to be thankful for the people and things in your life, and to spend that time with loved ones, but for a lot of us it has become something surround with angst. This feeling usually comes after (or during) having the big meal, and stuffing ourselves to the brim. In this post I am not going to tell you to make a super healthy meal or to avoid all your favorites. Because it is a such a problem for so many people to think they have to avoid food to feel good and healthy. When we try to fill up on tasteless, low-calorie food we deny ourselves of the singular, REAL, thing.

The key to having a Thanksgiving without guilt is to see food as the sacred thing which it is. It’s essential, not just for Thanksgiving, but all meals you eat, to savor each bite, eat slowly, and eat the real thing. Try eating a smaller portion of a substantial, truly nourishing meal of REAL food, REAL food that you actually want. See how you feel…see how you appreciate each bite so much more. See how you actually TASTE your food. See how you are not thinking about the meal but more so the conversation. See how your stomach doesn’t bloat and ache. See how YOU are in control of your body and how you feel.

Try taking a small bite, not a forkful of all the food on your plate-that will confuse and jumble your tastebuds, denying you from truly tasting your food. Chew that food slowly, and after you’ve swallowed pay attention to smell, texture, taste. Put down your fork. Have a drink of water. Talk to people, Listen.Ok, ok I know this may sound crazy to people or even seem like an aggravating way of eating to some of you. To us, this way of eating is so foreign, it is customary in many cultures, cultures where the population has a low obesity rate and longer-living citizens. When eating this way, you actually appreciate your food, you taste your food, you realize you don’t need as much substance to feel satisfied.

The last point I want to discuss is treating yourself, and eating what you want without guilt. So many of us feel GUILTY when we eat what we are craving, it could be pasta or a biscotti or a cookie. When you think about how “naughty” you’re being and how “bad” you’ll feel after you eat it, it COMPLETELY BLOCKS you from enjoying what you’re consuming. Why not try eating a small portion of what you really want and not feeling guilty. American women associate eating with sin and guilt. We should eat and prepare food with pleasure. But also not rely solely on food for pleasure.

This is your sign to feel enough- to know you are enough, to know you are in control, and to strive for balance.

As many of you know, the official start of Autumn was this past week, and boy did it feel like it. This time of year just makes me want to go on crispy air walks, come home and sip tea by the fire with a plump book. A Gentle Transition Into Fall

Oh how fall is creeping around the corner! The days are getting busier and the nights darker. I think at each season, it’s important to reflect and set goals. Hopefully this guide helps you into the transition of fall

tumblr_mw3oi4G52d1slfr2co1_500

  • right as you wake up, set your mind into the right place. think of what you want to get out of the day. Carpe Diem!
  • warmth is needed. (tea!) (socks!)
  • look back at your goals. it’s a new season, ask yourself:

-what excites me in my life? what doesn’t?

-are the people in my life supporting me and making me a better person? am i?

-am i fully present during my day? (at work/school, when i talk to others)

-am i exerting my body daily? what about incorporating healing & fresh foods in my diet daily?

-are my thoughts primarily positive? am i releasing & forgiving negative thoughts that enter my mind?

5 Changes To Have A Smoother Morning

good-morning-pictures-tumblr-2-272x273

1. Prep your water.

Water is always the first thing to think about in the morning. It wakes your body up and is incredibly beneficial for the body. If you don’t easily remember to drink water when you wake, fill a large liter with some H2O and ice, put it by your bedside, and it will be all ready for the morning.

2. Set your intentions

If you set the tone for the day, by writing down how you want to feel and what energy you want to radiate throughout the day, it can completely change your day.

3. Fuel your body

Having a healthy breakfast will give your body and brain energy to handle whatever obstacles you face throughout the day. If you’re in a time crunch, whip up a healthy green smoothie, almond butter toast with banana, or some overnight oats.

4. Move your body

If you have the time, it would be so great to go on a run or an hour yoga session, but a lot of us don’t have that time. I recommend wake up ten minutes earlier and spend that time going on a five minute walk outside and five minutes doing some stretch yoga. You will feel so much better going into your day, I promise.

5. Know what you’re going to wear

Not knowing what to wear stresses me out so much. Taking a couple minutes the night before to pick out what you’re going to wear will help you so much!!

Until text time,

Claire

Your Ultimate Spring Break

Spring break is approaching, which hopefully means warm weather and soft clouds and the ocean and flowers and happiness. But as much as we would all like to fly away somewhere exotic without a second thought, you usually have to do some planning. Even if you’re not going to Australia or Hawaii, you can still have a dreamy vacation wherever you’re headed.

Packing tips:

You are most likely going to be there for less than a week. Pack light, and pack smart. You don’t need much, sense you will mostly be in your bikini ;) ultimate sb post

  • Shoes: sneakers, like chucks. flip flops. fancy-er sandals. one pair of heels for a night out.
  • Bottoms: shorts, and lots of them. harem pants. maxi skirts.
  • One-Piece: a couple light, flowy dresses in both short and maxi length. rompers and jumpsuits are also great throw-ons
  • Tops: light tees and tanks in neutral and bright colors. if you’re feeling a bit daring, go for the cropped style.
  • Bikinis: this should take up the majority of your wardrobe, a girl can never have too many bikinis. pack some coverups too.
  • Accessories: hats and sunglasses, and lots of them for that matter.
  • Makeup: none! pack a little lip balm and you’re good to go. but, if you feel you need it for dinners and such, a little BB cream and bronzer will do the job.

Health and Wellness tips:

  • Wherever you’re going, drink lots and lots and LOTS of water
  • Look up some local restaurants and cafes prior to your trip
  • When in doubt, there is always a near by market to stock up on some basics
  • Focus on choosing the right foods wherever you are. You don’t want to feel heavy and clogged on your vacation
  • Stay active wherever you are! If you’re near an ocean- swim, paddle board, snorkel, surf. If you’re near a mountain- hike, run, or crawl up. If you’re not near anything- go for a run, walk, or bike and explore the area you’re in. Just find some way to move your body and stay active!
  • The only beauty products you need are coconut oil, raw honey, tea tree oil, and sea salt spray! Use the honey as a face cleanser, tea tree oil as a toner, and coconut oil as a moisturizer for your face and body. The only hair product you need in sea salt spray, spray it in on damp or dry hair and don’t fuss too much!image-1

Music playlist:

  • Freedom (#1) – Bikini Daze
  • Ends of the Earth – Lord Huron
  • Be Okay – Oh Honey
  • Peaches – In The Valley Below
  • Latch – Disclosure
  • Go Outside – Cults
  • All of Me – Tanlines
  • Happy – Pharrell
  • All of Your Heart – FM Radio
  • Pompeii – Bastille
  • Pumpin Blood – NONONO

Above all, enjoy where you are and let yourself fully be in the moment. Worrying about the past and future does no good for your soul. Bring a couple good books and embrace wherever the universe takes you.

Until next time,

Claire
