A Surprising Spring Smoothie.

Can you believe it’s been over a month since my last blog post? :-0 I can’t! The weeks are seeming to fly by quicker and quicker these days.

As the weather is getting warmer, I have been starting to crave fruit, yogurt, and fresh herbs. This cold, creamy drink is a perfect combination of these flavors. Let me know how to like it!

Our Calls.

tumblr_nk1829bi7z1rzyfwvo1_1280

In life, sometimes we only want to respond to our big, romantic, glamourous life calls, but fail to realize that in order to reach those, we must first respond to the unromantic, sometimes hard daily calls.

For example, maybe you are craving to be called into a life where you are excited about your job and the people around you. Maybe you have this “ideal” in your head that sounds lovely that you become easily excited by. But, every morning when your alarm goes off, you groan and dread it. Wake up! You are being called to be apart of today. You are being called to put in work for right now, for your future self.

You may find these conflicting calls in several areas of your life- whether it be from work, diet, romance, etc. So I urge you to not just focus on the pretty finished picture, but the smaller, everyday calls you are receiving. What are you pretending not to know?

Recipe: creamy banana ice-cream.

This recipe is great for you acai bowl lovers out there or anyone looking for a healthy alternative to ice-cream. One of the things I love about this food is you can have it for breakfast, a snack, or dessert. Also, you can add frozen berries for whatever you’re in the mood for.

Green Glow Juice.

Ever since I bought my own juicer, I have been converted. Maybe you’ve strayed away from juice from past experiences, or maybe you are turned off from the price. Or maaaaybe you love juice, but have only been purchasing them pre-bottled. Trust me, once you make your own juice it is a religious experience. Now, I know a high-quality juicer is expensive, but remember that the pre-bottled $12 ones add up! Especially if you’re getting them regularly.

Before I get on to the recipe, I want t0 touch on some of the benefits of juicing. Green juice is all the rage, and for good reason! When you drink juice, highly concentrated vitamins, minerals, and enzymes rapidly enter your bloodstream to be absorbed. Juicing will facilitate weight loss, increased energy, strengthened immunity, strong bones, and glowing skin. So go, drink up!

As for when to drink juice, the is no “wrong time”, as juicing is gold for your insides. But, to maximize the benefits, drink on an empty stomach, or at least one hour before a meal. As I said, there are no “rules”, only suggestions. :-)

Tips To Quit Mindless Snacking.

I think a lot of us suffer from snacking mindlessly when we know we are not hungry. Before I get into my tips, I want to address something you need to know. Firstly, forgive yourself. We. Are. So. Hard. On. Ourselves. Stop making yourself feel bad, find what feels good, and listen to your body. I invite you to re-read that sentence a couple times and reflect on it. tumblr_nht24f8Nrf1riiprwo1_1280

Now, let’s get onto my tips to stop snacking without intention.

  1. Drink water. Your body might be confusing signs of hunger with signs of thirst. So, before continuing with any of the tips, I urge you to chug a liter.
  2. Get out of the kitchen. If you’re sitting in the kitchen and you just can’t take your eyes off the pantry or you keep exiting your mind with ideas of what to eat, it’s probably time to walk away. Go outside for a walk, call a friend to chat, take a shower, clean your room, read. You will be glad you did ;-)
  3. Chew gum/brush your teeth. I’ve found it really helpful to give your juicy tastebuds the refreshing mint taste combined with the act of chewing to help beat that craving.
  4. Drink tea. Tea is so great because there is a flavor for basically anything you want. I seriously have a “Sugar Cookie tea” in my pantry! Also, naturally for humans, a warm drink is very comforting. Try brewing up a cup with a splash of nut milk to make it a bit creamier.

Having A Guilt-Free Thanksgiving.

vtfwvtrmujlwqzutnwpdt5rmckbkhx6wu8kifppv7j9rib5qrllig1emwgvvqmde-f

As we all know who celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s right around the corner. Thanksgiving should be a time to be thankful for the people and things in your life, and to spend that time with loved ones, but for a lot of us it has become something surround with angst. This feeling usually comes after (or during) having the big meal, and stuffing ourselves to the brim. In this post I am not going to tell you to make a super healthy meal or to avoid all your favorites. Because it is a such a problem for so many people to think they have to avoid food to feel good and healthy. When we try to fill up on tasteless, low-calorie food we deny ourselves of the singular, REAL, thing.

The key to having a Thanksgiving without guilt is to see food as the sacred thing which it is. It’s essential, not just for Thanksgiving, but all meals you eat, to savor each bite, eat slowly, and eat the real thing. Try eating a smaller portion of a substantial, truly nourishing meal of REAL food, REAL food that you actually want. See how you feel…see how you appreciate each bite so much more. See how you actually TASTE your food. See how you are not thinking about the meal but more so the conversation. See how your stomach doesn’t bloat and ache. See how YOU are in control of your body and how you feel.

Try taking a small bite, not a forkful of all the food on your plate-that will confuse and jumble your tastebuds, denying you from truly tasting your food. Chew that food slowly, and after you’ve swallowed pay attention to smell, texture, taste. Put down your fork. Have a drink of water. Talk to people, Listen.Ok, ok I know this may sound crazy to people or even seem like an aggravating way of eating to some of you. To us, this way of eating is so foreign, it is customary in many cultures, cultures where the population has a low obesity rate and longer-living citizens. When eating this way, you actually appreciate your food, you taste your food, you realize you don’t need as much substance to feel satisfied.

The last point I want to discuss is treating yourself, and eating what you want without guilt. So many of us feel GUILTY when we eat what we are craving, it could be pasta or a biscotti or a cookie. When you think about how “naughty” you’re being and how “bad” you’ll feel after you eat it, it COMPLETELY BLOCKS you from enjoying what you’re consuming. Why not try eating a small portion of what you really want and not feeling guilty. American women associate eating with sin and guilt. We should eat and prepare food with pleasure. But also not rely solely on food for pleasure.

This is your sign to feel enough- to know you are enough, to know you are in control, and to strive for balance.
