Healthful New Years Resolutions For Everyone

Hi guys and happy new year! I hope you all are well. As we all know weight loss/eating/health is a theme that enters a lot of people’s minds on January first. I personally have mixed feelings about new years resolutions, but I think it IS healthy for people to start thinking about what they’re putting in their body and what they’re doing with it. This being said, people think that intense, immediate switches are the way…and then usually fail. Nothing is immediate!!! Real results comes from longterm commitment, leading to longterm health & happiness. So, these next five goals can be for ANYONE, even people who live super healthy lives, it’s always good to reinforce and remind yourself.

1. Water, water, water! I cannot stress the importance of drinking water. Your cells (those things that keep you alive) BREATHE with water. Aim for 2-4 liters a day. Plan on drinking a big glass when you wake up, during your meals, between your meals, and another glass before bed. (Yes, I know that’s all day) I recommend buying a reusable water bottle and constantly filling it up throughout the day. It’s really yummy to add lemon or citrus fruits to your aqua. Your friends will be asking how you got your skin to look so good!

2. Smaller portions. This is so important you guys, people do not realize how much they are eating. Remember that your stomach is the size of your fist before your eat. Treat eating as a sacred thing (which it is by the way), chew slowly and get in touch with your senses with each bite. It helps to not hang around the kitchen after eating to limit grazing. I like to have a big cup of tea after meals. Know that you usually don’t need as much as you think you do. Don’t let your mind take control of you, this is your life, live it!

3. The Half Method. There are two ways I use the 1/2 method. The first is when I’m eating something delicious, but a little naughty, usually not something I eat all the time. This could be a pastry tart, or a sandwich, or pasta. I recommend splitting it in half, and eating only the half. You will feel satisfied and you are still getting the taste you desired. Now, if you’re like me, if I eat the half the next five minutes will consist of me staring at the other half and then finally giving up and eating it. Here’s the trick, if your with other people, split it and share! If you’re alone, get the half to-go and immediately stow it away in your bag.

The second way to use the 1/2 method is with your regular lunch and dinners. Make sure to have at least half of your plate filled with vegetables. Using that guide you’ll no doubt be getting your veg intake and it will help when you go out to eat.

4. Move more! One thing I find so funny about the American culture, is people would rather slave away in the gym like rats on a wheel than go up the stairs to a friends flat on the third floor, or walk a mile to a cafe. Find ways to walk more in your daily life! You don’t have to do these intense workouts in the gym. Do calf-raises on the train, walk to work, take the stairs (especially if it’s below level 5), flex your core as you’re sitting at your desk.

5. Breathe, baby breathe. So many of us forget the beauty of the breathe. Take time to inhale and exhale for six seconds, through your nose. Be consistent and remind yourself that your breathe takes you through all times of your life. The good and the bad.

Until next time,

How To Have An Instant Refresh.

Happy new year! I hope you are starting this year filled with love and hugs…butttt we don’t live in a perfect world. And you may be hung up on things that did or didn’t happen in 2014, or overwhelmed on the unknown of what this year will bring you, or maybe you’re incredibly hungover and feel like crap.

  • First, clear your head. Forget all your thoughts about past or future days, of wrong or right, of pain or pleasure. Just let yourself GO, breathe.
  • I firmly believe that a shower can fix most things in life. So take a long, hot shower. Spend longer than you normally would massaging your head with the suds of shampoo and breathe in the steam from the heat. Creme up your body and soak yourself in it’s yummy scents.
  • The second thing that will fix all your problems is going on a refreshing walk with your earbuds in. Let the music take over your mind.
  • Juice. If you don’t own a juicer there is most likely a juice cafe nearby. It might taste a little icky but your body and gut will be praising you.
  • Sleep a lot but not too much. Getting a good nights sleep is so important, but also don’t doze off for 11 hours and feel gross in the morning.

I hope this is a reference you can use whenever your feeling “eh” :-)

Until next time,

Having A Guilt-Free Thanksgiving.

As we all know who celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s right around the corner. Thanksgiving should be a time to be thankful for the people and things in your life, and to spend that time with loved ones, but for a lot of us it has become something surround with angst. This feeling usually comes after (or during) having the big meal, and stuffing ourselves to the brim. In this post I am not going to tell you to make a super healthy meal or to avoid all your favorites. Because it is a such a problem for so many people to think they have to avoid food to feel good and healthy. When we try to fill up on tasteless, low-calorie food we deny ourselves of the singular, REAL, thing.

The key to having a Thanksgiving without guilt is to see food as the sacred thing which it is. It’s essential, not just for Thanksgiving, but all meals you eat, to savor each bite, eat slowly, and eat the real thing. Try eating a smaller portion of a substantial, truly nourishing meal of REAL food, REAL food that you actually want. See how you feel…see how you appreciate each bite so much more. See how you actually TASTE your food. See how you are not thinking about the meal but more so the conversation. See how your stomach doesn’t bloat and ache. See how YOU are in control of your body and how you feel.

Try taking a small bite, not a forkful of all the food on your plate-that will confuse and jumble your tastebuds, denying you from truly tasting your food. Chew that food slowly, and after you’ve swallowed pay attention to smell, texture, taste. Put down your fork. Have a drink of water. Talk to people, Listen.Ok, ok I know this may sound crazy to people or even seem like an aggravating way of eating to some of you. To us, this way of eating is so foreign, it is customary in many cultures, cultures where the population has a low obesity rate and longer-living citizens. When eating this way, you actually appreciate your food, you taste your food, you realize you don’t need as much substance to feel satisfied.

The last point I want to discuss is treating yourself, and eating what you want without guilt. So many of us feel GUILTY when we eat what we are craving, it could be pasta or a biscotti or a cookie. When you think about how “naughty” you’re being and how “bad” you’ll feel after you eat it, it COMPLETELY BLOCKS you from enjoying what you’re consuming. Why not try eating a small portion of what you really want and not feeling guilty. American women associate eating with sin and guilt. We should eat and prepare food with pleasure. But also not rely solely on food for pleasure.

This is your sign to feel enough- to know you are enough, to know you are in control, and to strive for balance.

Until next time,

Change isn’t quiet.

I used to believe that we should all be peaceful, and love everyone, and not criticize others. But hey, change cannot occur without a brave voice, and that voice isn’t doing what everyone else is doing, that voice is different. So be loud, scream. And people will scream at you right back. If you want to avoid criticism; say nothing, do nothing, be nothing. Open up people’s eyes…gently. Live your truth.

Here are some pictures and quotes I have been liking!

All are from Tumblr. x

“Try not to feel jealous about things, or people or places. It’s toxic. Just keep living. You will find your happiness.”

“You cannot pray for an A on a test and study for a B. You cannot pray for a celestial marriage and live a telestial life. You cannot pray for something and act less.” -Tad R. Callister

“Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.”

“Don’t assume, ask. Be kind. Tell the truth. Don’t say anything you can’t stand behind fully. Have integrity. Tell people how you feel.” -Warsan Shire

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” -Confucius

“Don’t stop until you’re satisfied. You want an explanation? Ask. You want to be successful? Work. Don’t settle for results you don’t want. Don’t stop until you’re satisfied.”

The Law of Attraction // Manifesting

-The Secret is a film about The Law of Attraction that has held a lot of attention and has a lot of buzz around it. It focuses on this radical idea of manifesting; of how you can have anything you want through your energy and your thoughts and your vibration. This is a concept that all relates and revolves around awakening your inner spiritual being and accessing that power. Our one body and one spirit can have such immense power, not only on ourselves and our life but everything and every spirit in our wake. But I am not here to write to you today about ‘what goes around comes around’ (that will be another day), I’m here to talk about the key things you need to know about manifesting.

-Manifesting is not creating something out of nothing, it is letting the invisible become visible. This is something people get caught up in. Another very important thing to know before you manifest is to not obsess, you need to focus on how you will feel with that thing you are wanting in your life. And live off that feeling, but not obsess. You need to focus for a short amount of time, but a very spiritually strong amount of time on what you are wanting, and how that will make you feel, and then completely let it go. You need to let it go and live through that feeling, and do what you can to support that feeling. It’s the feeling more than the thought that creates that form, that makes that form visible.

-If you are searching for romance or love from a partner, you need to love yourself first. If you want to create more money in your life, and have a greater abundance, then you need to respect your money and indulge in what you know you can. As you start to ponder that feeling, it becomes your reality. d49e3d8d4f125f54c7942455fac01b6f

-Another important thing I need to note is the universe does not understand “don’t”. This is especially important when seeking a romantic partner. If you say, “I don’t want a Gemini, I don’t want a smoker, I don’t want someone that eats meat, I don’t want someone that is not financially stable” the universe will take these in as the opposite of what you are saying. So yet again you need to focus on how this person will make you feel. How will you feel coming home to this person? How will their presence in your life make you feel?

-Manifesting is a beautiful practice that can completely change your life. It really shows the immense power of this universe and the power it holds.

10 Small Steps To Happiness

1. feel everything. feel every thing you touch, feel every emotion that emerges within you, feel all situations you are in, feel the cold floor on your toes in the morning; feel every touch, every scent, every thought. don’t apologize for your feelings, there is no wrong or right way to feel.

2. go to a bookstore and get lost. there is a book about everything and anything. find a book that satisfies what your mind desires.

3. wake up earlier. wake up early enough to go anywhere in your world and watch the sunrise. watch the beauty of the earth unfold in front of your eyes. appreciate it. tumblr_n03f93Il8s1rpghrdo1_500

4. go to bed earlier. go to bed at a time to set yourself up to feel energized the next day.

5. surround yourself with sounds, work, ideas, thoughts, and people that inspire you and make you want to do better. keep those things and people close to you. better food. stop eating processed food and eat the foods that nature intended us to eat. it with make you feel really good.

7. get in the habit of drinking more water. it will make you feel clear and fresh, and that is a good feeling.

8. write. write about any place or situation you’ve ever desired, include every detail. write what you did and thought that day; write what you’re feeling. just write.

9. stretch. stretch up toward the sky as if you can touch the clouds. stretch down toward the earth as if it’s molding underneath your fingertips.

10. lie underneath the sun and dream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t an option. let your mind drift to a land of endless possibilities. take steps each day to make that happen for you.
